To find your Expression Number, we look at your full birth name exactly as it appears on your birth certificate. This includes your first name, all middle names, and your last name. Every letter is converted to a number using the Pythagorean numerology chart (A=1 through I=9, then the sequence repeats: J=1, K=2, etc.).
Important:
You will total each name separately, reduce each to a single digit (or Master Number), and then combine them. Just like with your Life Path, you do not reduce the Master Numbers 11, 22, or 33 when they appear as a total.
Step-by-step method:
- Write your full birth name
Write your complete name as it appears on your birth certificate (first, middle, last). - Convert each letter to a number
Use the Pythagorean chart to turn every letter into a digit from 1–9, then list the numbers under each name. For example, J=1, A=1, N=5, E=5. - Add each name separately
Add the numbers in your first name and reduce to a single digit (or Master Number). Do the same for each middle name and your last name. - Add the name totals
Add the reduced totals for your first, middle, and last names together. If the result is a double digit, reduce it again—unless it is 11, 22, or 33. The final result is your Expression Number.
Quick example:
- First Name: Convert each letter, add them, and reduce to a single digit or Master Number.
- Middle Name(s): Repeat the process and reduce.
- Last Name: Convert, add, and reduce.
Final Expression: Add the three results together and reduce to a single digit or 11, 22, or 33.
